Meet the girl of your dreams

Ariel has been living at the SPCA of Westchester for the past 3 1/2 years. She was found as a stray and never claimed. Why she has been passed by for so many years is anyone's guess. Is it because of her black fur? Is it because of her breed or lack there of? We'll never know, but someone out there is missing out on the companion of their dreams.

Ariel is a very sweet dog who is always eager to please. She loves, loves, loves working the agility course set up at the shelter. She would make an awesome agility dog! She knows her basic commands and is always willing to learn something new.

Ariel was the star of a humane education presentation created by SPCA volunteers and presented to 5th grade students. Ariel was used as an example to teach kids that it is wrong to judge people or animals based on stereotypes and prejudices.

Ariel deserves a chance. She has lots of love to give and is just waiting for that special someone to come take her home.

Update on Ariel

I spent some time with Ariel today at the shelter and thought it was worth mentioning.
She never ceases to amaze me. She has been in the shelter environment for nearly four years and yet she still remains eager to please and wanting to learn new things. Today we worked on "shake". She was very eager to learn a new trick and will do just about anything for a treat!
After working with her for about 20 minutes she was getting it! I would put my hand (with a treat in it) down and when she pawed at it I would say "yes!" and treat her from my left hand. Next week I will add the verbal command "shake" when she paws at my hands. I will update her blog next week with her progress. Stay tuned!
